We made good progress northwards overnight with short stops en route and in the early afternoon arrived in Tromso. At 400km north of the Arctic Circle it was , n the past, a centre for seal hunting, trapping, fishing and later a ‘launch-pad’ for several Arctic expeditions with some led by Roald Amundsen. We docked at the new Hurtigruten Terminal which accommodates three ships which brings them into the centre and integrates maritime traffic with daily life.

We sauntered through the town and old port revisiting the old wharves before returning to the ship ready for a 6:15 p.m. departure sailing to the most northerly point of Europe.
