Day 4

Thursday 11th September

We awoke to the ship docking alongside the southbound Hurtigruten in Trondheim. This is the largest city in this region of Norway at 62 degrees north. An exploration enabled us to find the ancient cathedral and the wharves and warehouses from the fish trade.

At 12 noon we set sail to continue the journey northwards. We passed the Kjeungskjaer lighthouse which has operated since 1880 at the entrance to the Stokksundet which is a narrow sound leading to an open stretch of the Norwegian Sea, known as the Folda. We dropped off and picked up people and cargo at Rorvik in pouring rain which made the night time pictures sparkle!

Overnight we made progress to Bodo, crossing the Arctic Circle in the early morning of day 5.
