Today’s bus tour took us to three key areas related to the communities that settled in the region before British colonialisation.
The Sultan Mosque in the ‘Arab’ area is a blend of Persian, Moorish and Turkish design. This was followed by ‘Little India’. This has Singapore’s oldest structures with Hindu gods watching over the area. The final visit was to ‘China Town’. This was a disappointment as the streets were lined with shops and cafes catering for tourists rather than an example of daily life of the inhabitants of such a place.
The high temperatures (31C) continued, but by 1:00 p.m.the cumulus clouds developed and by late afternoon heavy showers and thunderstorms arrived.
