Our latest adventure started here.

This place has the second largest natural harbour in the world and the British were drawn here following John Cabot’s explorations in 1497, when sailing from Bristol and encountered cod in vast numbers. By the mid 16th century the cod fishing grounds off Newfoundland and Nova Scotia were providing 60% of the fish consumed in England and brought prosperity to the ports of Plymouth and Dartmouth. The British needed a land base for the shops and places to process them before the long voyage to England. Across the harbour is the town of Dartmouth linked to where we are in 1752 by North America’s oldest saltwater ferry service. We will give the answer tomorrow.
